Scholarship Information
The YHS Alumni Association, Inc., awards a $2,500 scholarship annually to a graduating senior from YHS to the college of their choice. Seniors wishing to participate in the Alumni Association award must complete an application and submit it to the YHS Guidance Department by no later than March 1st of the current year. The Alumni Scholarship Committee will then make a selection from the applications received. Applicants must have an excellent scholastic record and participate in extracurricular activities, both in school and the community.
In addition, Christopher Newport University has a perpetual endowed scholarship available for a qualifying YHS senior planning to attend CNU. This dedicated YHS Alumni Association Scholarship is funded through a combination of the $25,000 obtained during the Golden Jubilee of 2004 and a matching $25,000 grant from an anonymous donor. The annual gains on investment of these funds will be made available to support a part of the selected individual's tertiary education. Applications for the award may be made by contacting the YHS Guidance Department and recipient selection will be based primarily on academic performance. If no YHS graduate applies for this scholarship, it will go to any other deserving CNU applicant. Therefore it is crucial that YHS seniors planning to continue their education at CNU be made aware of the existence of the scholarship. Please help us get the word out about this wonderful opportunity!
Both of these scholarships are available to deserving YHS seniors if they complete the application process and are selected. For further information, contact the Alumni Scholarship Committee Chairman, Eunice Taylor Fenwick, 757-253-2929 (home), 757-869-5510 (cell), or email: eunicefenwick@cox.net.
